TERMS OF THE COMPETITION
Each year, Esse arts + opinions presents a writing competition for young critics registered in a bachelor’s or master’s program at a Canadian university.
Your contribution can be an essay or a review (exhibition, event, performance, theatre, dance, music, visual art, or site-specific intervention), corresponding to the magazine’s mandate. Articles should be between 750 and 1,250 words in length. Please add a short biography (30 words) that mentions your current education level.
The competition winner’s essay will be printed in the fall issue of Esse. The author will receive a publishing fee, support from the editorial board for the final edit of the essay, and a two-year subscription to Esse.
Finalist essays will be published online. Their authors will receive a support from the editorial board for the final edit of the essay, and a two-year subscription to Esse.
The next submission deadline is May 10, 2022. For article submissions or for more information, contact us at: firstname.lastname@example.org. Please write “Young Critics Competition” in the subject line.
