Après un spectacle

Après un spectacle
Lafrance, David

Après un spectacle —

The painting entitled Après un spectacle depicts the site of a party after the celebrants have gone. A crudely designed landscape surrounds a stage on which a musical or theatrical performance took place. The landscape recounts a human activity filled with euphoric sensations and commonplace intoxication. The picture, in which ideas of creation and destruction mingle, bears witness to an event in which elements of nature and culture cohabit.

David Lafrance was born in Quebec in 1976. He graduated from the painting and drawing program of Montreal’s Concordia University in 2001 where he received the Guido-Molinari Prize for his academic performance. The painter, engraver and sculptor has had several exhibitions in Quebec, Canada and the United States in recent years. He has received grants from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec. His work can be found in the Collection Prêt d’œuvres d’art du Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, as well as in the collections of the Bibliothèque Nationale du Québec, the Cirque du Soleil and Loto-Québec. Inspired by folklore and popular art, he dedicates himself to, among other things, caricaturing solemn and romantic models of beauty and force. To complement his pictorial work, his artistic practice has evolved to include experimental and bruitist music. David Lafrance lives and works in Montréal.
