Outta shape
La Rue, Stéphane

Outta shape ―

Outta shape is part of a body of work that, some formal questions aside, is the fruit of long, ritualized walks through the city. La Rue freely comtemplated all sorts of phenomena, particularly architecture and the visual ambiguity of the buildings’ structures: angles, shadow, light and material. What his gaze imprinted on his memory became what accompanied him into the studio and what became—through the ritual of the work—a renewable source of such experiences.

Stéphane La Rue
was born in 1968 and lives and works in Montreal. He has shown his work in many solo exhibitions: the Musée d’art contemporain and the Galerie Roger Bellemare in Montreal (2001), the Art Gallery of York University in Toronto (2003), the Galerie de l’UQAM (2008), the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec (2010), the TrépanierBaer Gallery in Calgary and Diaz Contemporary in Toronto (2009). He has also taken part in numerous group shows: the 511 Gallery in New York (2006), the Galerie Mathieu in Lyon, France (2006), the Musée d’art contemporain in Montreal (2003) and the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec in Quebec City (2003). His work can be found in many private and corporate collections across Canada including those of the Musée d’art contemporain in Montreal, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, the Galerie de l’UQAM and the National Bank of Canada.
