L’apprentie no 2
De Pauw, Manon

L’apprentie no 2 —

The Apprentie series presents experiments with an illuminated surface, wherein De Pauw explore the emergence of images and the process of their construction through tactile effects, diffuse lighting, and an understated presence. Each composition is a trial, an approach, a way of grasping the object of study and of representing the visible world. This image is part of Galerie de l’UQAM’s art collection. The first version of this series, presented in larger light boxes, is part of the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec’s permanent collection.

Manon De Pauw has presented solo exhibitions at Optica (Montreal, 2007), Trinity Square Video (Toronto, 2007), Expression (Saint-Hyacinthe, 2005), Sylviane Poirier art contemporain (Montreal, 2004), and DARE-DARE (Montreal, 2003). Her work has been shown in numerous group exhibitions, events and festivals in Canada as well as in Europe and Latin America: Québec Triennial at the Musée d’art contemporain in Montreal (2008), 8a Bienal de video y nuevos medios de Santiago 2007 (Chile), Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec (2004). Works by De Pauw are also to be found in the permanent collections of the Musée d’art contemporain in Montreal, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, and UQAM. In 2009, her solo exhibition Manon De Pauw: Intrigues was held at Galerie de l’UQAM, accompanied by a monograph with the same title, edited by curator Louise Déry. In 2010, she was guest curator-artist at the Musée d’art contemporain in Montreal for the series Point de vue sur la collection. In collaboration with choreographer Danièle Desnoyer, she performed at the Festival TransAmérique (Montréal, 2008), the Festival Internacional Cervantino (Guanajuato, Mexico, 2009), and toured in Seville, Granada, and Malaga (Spain, 2010). Since 2002, she has been teaching at Concordia University’s photography department and at UQAM’s École des arts visuels et médiatiques.
