Gravures (2002-2003) —

Gravures (2002-2003) is from a series of eleven images taken from guest books that have been used by galerie B-312 to document exhibition openings over the past twenty years. Barely visible in many of these images are the impressions left by visitor signatures and comments, as well as the faint outlines of announcement cards that were intermittently affixed to the books’ pages. This practice of “tipping-in” an exhibition announcement card has been used by the gallery since its inception as a way to mark the opening of a show and to enable future readers of the guest books to distinguish the signatures and well-wishes left for various exhibitions.

David K. Ross (b. 1966, Canada) works in a variety of media, including film, video, photography, and installation. Ross’s formal training as an architect and his experimentation with large-format photography and film have resulted in a wide range of projects investigating the history of optical technologies and cartographic practices, museum taxonomies and transport systems, self-storage facilities and urban infrastructures.

Ross’s works have been exhibited in major institutions in North America and Europe. His works are included in private and public collections, including the National Gallery of Canada, the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, and the Canadian Centre for Architecture. He divides his time between Montreal and Chicago.
