Perdre du poids
Bérubé, Patrick

Perdre du poids —

This contradictory object seeks to emphasize the absurd nature of our preoccupations, in particular the importance of bodily image and the obsessive world of fitness training. This work seeks to reveal our foolishness, superficiality, and insecurity in a world that has more important issues to deal with… The object is certainly an expression of social criticism, but instead of preaching, the work illustrates human fragility and the often absurd, ephemeral, and illusory nature of this type of obsession.

Patrick Bérubé obtained a Master’s in Visual and Media Arts from UQAM in 2005 and was a finalist for the Prix Pierre-Ayot in 2010. Bérubé’s work has gained national and international acclaim through his participation in numerous major exhibitions and events, including the 2010 exhibition Ceci n’est pas un Casino at Casino Luxembourg, Luxembourg, and at Villa Merkel, Germany. In 2005 he was awarded the Jury Prize at the 3rd Manifestation internationale d’art de Québec. He has also participated in several residencies, including the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec’s residency in Barcelona, Spain in 2009, and the Cité internationale des Arts Paris residency in 2007. He is a founding member of the Pique-Nique collective and realized his first site-specific work, at the Taz skatepark in 2010.
